Research shows that 75% of UTIs are triggered by se x and the
symptoms may include a strong, persistent urge to urinate, a burning
sensation when urinating, cloudy urine, red, blood in the urine and
strong-smelling urine.
Agreeing to have s e x without protection is the same things as agreeing to share yourself in totality with another person.
In that package come the good – se xual pleasure, and potential bad – se xually transmitted diseases.
Now,
one of the potential bad is the risk of getting a urinary tract
infection (UTI), like gonorrhoea and syphilis, from that person.
The
risks are high, especially as research shows that 75% of UTIs are
triggered by s e x and the symptoms may include a strong, persistent urge
to urinate, a burning sensation when urinating, cloudy urine, red, blood
in the urine and strong-smelling urine.
It also comes with pelvic pain in women and rectal pain in men.
While
there are several medical treatments you could get in the hospital,
there are two simple things you can do to greatly lower the risks.
- Urinating immediately after se xual intercourse. Especially for women, urinating immediately after se xual intercourse helps prevent bacteria from moving into the urethra. In men too, urine flushes out the bacteria from the male urinary tract.
- Washing, bathing after se xual intercourse. Nothing beats washing the genitals before and immediately after sex. This cleans residue of possibly compromised fluids released during sex.
Note that these only lower the risk and do not function as infallible prevention for UTIs or other risks related to s e x.
Personal hygiene is key.
